Developing a Standard for Event-driven process Chains (EPCs) [Entwurf und Realisierung einer Spezifikation zur Normung Ereignisgesteuerter Prozessketten] (SPEAK)

At the beginning of the 1990s, scholars developed the business process modeling language of Event-driven Process Chains (EPC), which quickly established as a quasi-standard in research and industry. However, up to now, there still exists no official standard or norm, hence neither generally accepted syntax and semantics nor notation. Such missing standards hamper exchange of models in collaborative business process management projects, makes communication of stakeholders difficult and may cause additional transaction costs. With the SPEAK project, we aim to eliminate these shortcomings by developing an EPC specification including syntax, semantics, exchange format and notation as a basis for a DIN standardization process (DIN SPEC PAS).
